Fellow IMA’ers: Our second dinner meeting of the year had an even better turnout than our first! Teresa was a pleasure as our speaker and gave some valuable insights into the current market. Thanks to Ted Bachman for arranging a great speaker. Our next speaker is Ralph Bartell from SCORE arranged by Barry Daly. His topic is “How to Start and Stay in Business”. For those who are looking at alternatives to corporate life, this should be a great presentation. As a former small business owner, I know that the terrain is significantly different from sitting in a large corporation. This is also our Community Service Night. Please come and join us not only for a great speaker but also to hear more of what Bob Boone, our Director of Community Service, has to say about your chapter’s activities in the community. Even better, come and find out how you can use your talents to help our community. We had a good turnout for our first orientation meeting. Thanks to Bob Wage for organizing and coordinating it as well as Peter Winfrey and Kathy Santos-Rezendes for their contributions. We hope to have two more this year. If you are new to either IMA or our chapter and would like to attend, watch for upcoming announcements. If you know of someone who may be thinking of joining, this would be a great way to introduce him or her to the organization! Bring them along! We have arranged for four hours of CPE on November 21st. There will be two 2-hour sessions presented by Stuart Levine, a local attorney, trainer and Human Resource executive for 25 years. His courses are certified by the State CPA Board (just as we are). The topics are “The Power of Effective Workplace Communication” and “Behavioral Interviewing and the Law”. It will be held at the La Quinta Inn in Cary from 1 PM – 5 PM and will cost members only $50 for four hours CPE. That is also the same day as our next dinner meeting. Make a day of it and go for five hours of CPE! In more exciting news, Ted Greer is busy arranging a new CMA review class. Our format will be a little different. Instead of doing a review of all parts over the next nine weeks, we are going to do one part, allow time for taking the test and then schedule another review part. Ted is working out the details now, so be sure and watch the web site for the details. I want to thank those of you who have responded to us by reporting your CPE. Please keep it coming by going to the either our website or national’s and updating the CPE form. Right now, we are reporting only 85% of the national average of CPE hours per member. That reduces the return of your dues to your chapter. I know that with the record number of CMA\CFM (plus the CPA designations) certifications, we should be above 100%. Even if you aren’t certified or have taken more than you need for certification, please report it to us. It all counts for compensation. We are reinstating the pre-registration discount this year. For the Thursday night dinner meetings, you must have contacted Kathy through the website by Midnight the Sunday before the dinner meeting. Please remember that the prices have changed so that we can cover our cost, not make a profit. Does that mean you won’t be able to attend if you don’t pre-register? No. They are buffets, so the Marriott will have enough for a certain number of people who will show up at the door without pre-registrations. We would appreciate if you do know you are coming and it is Monday - Wednesday that you go ahead and register. That way, if a significant number of people over the Marriott’s number are coming we can alert the Marriott to that fact. However, it will cost you $5 more. Let me emphasize that even though we raised the price this year, all we do is cover the cost of the meal. I look forward to this year. I hope you do too. Per usual, I will put in my pitch for Board members in closing, although we have had great success in filling our slots. We now have two spots that need your help, a Director of Roster and a Director of Speakers. Come join us and develop those leadership skills. Ronald J.
