 Fellow IMA’ers:

We are starting out the year with a visit from Congressman David Price and welcoming our peers from the Internal Auditors Association local chapter.  Congressman Price has been a member of the Budget Committee for the past few years as well as a member of the Small Business Committee in years past.  He is planning on discussing the final legislation that passed Congress addressing the situations with Enron and MCI Worldcom.  I know it will be a very informative presentation on legislation that will affect all of us in one way or another.

As many of you may remember, we in the past have had sponsors for the dinner meetings.  We want to thank LoneSource for reintroducing the sponsorship role again at this dinner meeting.  They have a short paragraph on their company in the newsletter and will also be at the meeting to pass out literature, make a short presentation and answer any questions you have on their company or services.  If your company or if you know of a company that would like to sponsor a dinner meeting or seminar, please have them contact me.

Please note that since we are having a joint meeting in January, the pre-registration deadline for the discount rate is the Friday before the meeting, January 10th.  Also, please register early.  We expect a good turnout and would like to give as much notice to the Marriott as possible if we need to move to a bigger meeting room.   Does that mean you won’t be able to attend if you don’t pre-register?  No.  They are buffets, so the Marriott will have enough for a certain number of people who will show up at the door without pre-registrations.  We would appreciate if you do know you are coming and it is Saturday - Wednesday that you go ahead and register.  That way, if a significant number of people over the Marriott’s number are coming we can alert the Marriott to that fact.  However, it will cost you $5 more.  Let me emphasize that even though we raised the price this year, all we do is cover the cost of the meal.

I have enjoyed this year as we have had great speakers, good attendance and re-introduced some services to the membership.  The second half looks to be the same.  I will also point out that we are now starting our search for next year’s board.  If you haven’t been involved, please consider taking a position.  You could start out as an Associate Director which would mean you could assist a Director and learn their position.  If you have any interest in doing that, please let me know.  We will be finalizing our selections by the end of February for submittal to National.

NEW CMAs/CFMs

The Chapter is proud to recognize these newly certified chapter members: Edith Ennis, CMA; Julianna Koffa CMA/CFM; Barbara A. Mendler, CMA/CFM.  Congratulations!

A special recognition to Barbara who received a Certificate of Distinguished Performance for the Summer CFM test passing all four parts of the CFM certificate within a six month period!  Way to go Barbara!

CMA/CFM REVIEW SESSIONS

Ted Greer, our Director of CMA\CFM Programs, has successfully arranged a new CMA review class for Part II.  Our format will be a little different.  Instead of doing a review of all parts over the next nine weeks, we are going to do one part, allow time for taking the test and then schedule another review part.  Our first installment will be on January 25th/26th and February 1st/2nd.  It will be taught by a Professor at NC State who has done our previous sessions and will be on the NC State campus.  The cost is $180\member for both days.  For non-members of IMA, the price is $250 for both days, still a fair price.  We do have a minimum we need to meet, so please either contact Ted as soon as possible or check the web site out for other details and registration, www.imanctriangle.org.
