2003 Dinner Meeting Schedule

May 15                      Andrew Silton, Chief Investment Officer,State Treasurer’s Office

                                Past Presidents Night

All meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at the RTP Marriott off of Miami Boulevard.  Social starts at 6:00 with a buffet dinner starting at 6:30.  Pre-registration cost is $25 members, $30 non-members. Register at http://www.imanctriangle.org/register.htm

Fellow IMA’ers:

The time has come for my last letter to you, the people for whom I and the Board have so diligently worked for the past two years to make this organization valuable to you.  I hope that in at least some small measure you believe we have succeeded in that endeavor.

Our next CMA review is coming up in June.  It will be a two Saturday review.  See our website or elsewhere in this newsletter for details.  This is a very valuable service that is offered at, frankly, a very reasonable cost.  However, I will tell you that with changes coming down from the National organization on chapter compensation, we can no longer afford to subsidize a large part of these review courses.  We need more participation to continue these top quality and economical courses!  At this point, the June session is still scheduled, but we will have to have enough pre-registered and pre-paid to be close to breakeven in order to hold it.

Your response to our request for CPE that you have taken has been great!  It has resulted in a bigger portion of your dues coming into the chapter treasury so we can do things like the CMA Review, all day seminars, the dinner meetings, mailing an abbreviated newsletter to those who don’t have email and paying for a website.  Just a reminder that while your certification requirements are annual for CPE, our fiscal year runs June 1 through May 31.  We need your CPE through May in order to count it in this year.  If you could send us your hours through the end of April the first part of May, that would be a tremendous help in getting them on the May report due on 5\20.  We have a final reconciliation for purposes of the year’s pay based on CPE the first of June, so if you could tell us the first of June your May hours, that would also be a tremendous help.  There is a form on our website, but basically we need the title of the course or seminar, the date and the applicable CPE hours.  Thanks in advance for your continued help.

Our dinner speaker for May is Andrew Silton, Chief Investment Officer for the State Treasurer’s Office.  With the current state of affairs with the North Carolina state budget deficits, this promises to be an interesting presentation on how the state manages to find and protect its investments in an uncertain market.  The pre-registration deadline is the Monday before the dinner meeting on Thursday.  This pre-registration allows us to plan the size room and setup we need for the meeting.  Cancellations need to be in by noon of the day of the dinner if we are to successfully reduce our guarantee to the hotel.

We have all Board positions filled, including some co-directorships and the expanded reinstatement of a Board position we had dropped a couple of years ago.  It’s wonderful to see the response we have had this year for involvement.  It will make it possible to do even more next year to provide the membership with value added benefits for their membership.  The more we have involved, the less work for each person and the more we can do for the membership in keeping this a vibrant and viable organization.

Thank you for all of you who helped support Bob Boone’s efforts on behalf of the March of Dimes.  It was a success on all counts.  I hope you will look forward to helping next year.

Our last dinner is saved to honor the past presidents of IMA, including the Durham and Fayetteville Chapters.  I am currently calling all past presidents who are still members of the IMA.  If you are or know of someone who was a past president but is no longer a member, please contact me.  I have no contact information for anyone other than who is a member but would certainly like to include anyone who may have contributed in the past.  We will also be having our announcement on the membership winner and our drawings for eight prizes for IMA attendance this year.  And, as is the custom, we will be announcing our Horky Award winner.  A full and fun night to end a very successful year for this organization.

Finally, I want to thank all of the people who have served on the Board and who have faithfully been attending the dinner meetings over the past two years.  You have been the reason that we have seen the resurgence in this organization and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the hard work you put in that made my job easier.  It has been both a personal and professional pleasure serving as your President.  I know that I leave with a great person, Kathy Santos-Rezendes as President, who is going to lead this full and motivated board on to even better things.

Ronald J. Lowell,

Chapter President
