Fellow IMA’ers: Well, we had another great speaker as well as a great attendance. Over 40 people enjoyed the talk given by Lucy Gallo as she went further into the topic of fraud detection that is such a part of our profession after Enron. Look for more of Lucy in the coming months as we continue to strengthen our Professional Education series of seminars. Our thanks to Trio, LLC for sponsoring our March meeting. Please refer to a brief description of their company or a flyer if you are receiving a hard copy of this newsletter. They will also have a 10 minute presentation at our dinner meeting in March. Our next CMA review is coming up on March 29. It is a one day review again done by the NC State Professors. Great CPE even if you don’t need the review for the test. Check other parts of the newsletter for the details. Do you have a certification? Did you fulfill all of your educational requirements last year? If so, please report to us the professional education you took outside our dinner meetings to meet those requirements. Our dinner speaker for March is Lea Strickland. Lea comes from a very broad background with various companies in CFO\Controller positions. Some were private, some were public, some were startup and some were Fortune 500. For those students attending, indeed for all of us who are looking for how different companies and different situations require different solutions, this will be a very enlightening and enjoyable presentation as Lea talks about the variety of different problems she faced. How are companies the same yet different? Why doesn’t the same solution work for a privately held corporation and a Fortune 500? You will enjoy both the content and the presentation as Lea is a dynamic speaker with a unique sense of humor. The pre-registration deadline is the Monday before the Thursday dinner meeting. This pre-registration allows us to plan the room size and setup we need for the meeting. Cancellations need to be in by noon of the day of the dinner if we are to successfully reduce our guarantee to the hotel. As you already know, Kathy Santos-Rezendes is our President elect. The balance of the Board is remaining on with some changes in position. However, we may need one of two Directors and we can always use Associate Directors to help the Directors out. Some of the positions are more demanding than others. Please contact Kathy, myself or Ted Greer if you have any interest in participating on the Board for next year. The next term starts in May. It is a great way to get involved a little at a time until you are ready for a full commitment. Remember, the more we have involved, the less work for each person but the more we can do for the membership in keeping this a vibrant and viable organization. Bob Boone has some details on the annual March of Dimes walk below. I want to encourage all of you to participate in the March of Dimes event, whether its walking or helping to count money, it doesn’t matter. Bob really needs some volunteers. Let’s get behind him and show him the IMA spirit of community participation. Please see the details on our membership drive presented by Ted Bachman. Also see details of our upcoming seminars being put on by Lea Strickland, one on 3\22\03 on sales and use tax with a practical application seminar in the afternoon. See you at dinner! Ronald J.
