 Fellow IMA’ers:

Your Chapter’s goal for this program year is to provide high quality and low-cost CPE, along with networking opportunities during the year.  Since your last newsletter the Board has continued their brainstorming and following up on ideas for topics and speakers.  Below is a tentative program, and while all the topics do not yet have speakers, it simply means we have not confirmed the particular speaker we are pursuing.  We will be confirming the program in our August newsletter.  Mark your calendars for the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Marriott Hotel for dinner meetings and register for any of our meetings at our web site www.imanctriangle.org

There have been many changes at National particularly in compensation and competition for the 2003-2004 year.  Over the next few weeks some of you may be contacted regarding sponsorship of, as well as advertisements in, our Annual Roster and monthly newsletters.  Several organizations have already accepted sponsorship and it is greatly appreciated.

The portion of your dues that come back to us locally to operate our chapter will depend on your participation in IMA sponsored education.  Under the new competition guidelines, we receive credit for ONLY IMA sponsored CPE taken and thus a return of your dues to us for compensation and competition points. Both are earned in a variety of ways.  In education, we earn compensation and points for the attendance at our dinner meetings, CMA/CFM reviews, passing CMA/CFM parts, award of CMA/CFM certifications, and IMA sponsored seminars.  To this end, IMA will automatically record your CPE when you register for each event.  Please be sure to provide our chapter # 406 at registration.

Outside CPE no longer counts for compensation or competition points, but it does count towards your annual CPE requirement.  You can go directly to the member portal at the National website and update your personal record.

While we are planning our new year there is one remaining CPE opportunity available this summer:  The Carolinas Council (www.imacarolinascouncil.org) will be hosting 8 hours of continuing education on Friday July 25th  in Greensboro, NC.

If you’re a member and have not participated in our events recently, please consider this your invitation.   If you are not a member, please come check us out and consider joining IMA.  We want to make your IMA experience the best possible !

Here is just a reminder of the many benefits your IMA membership provides:

Triangle Area Chapter of the

Institute of Management Accountants

                The CMA/CFM Examinations

The CMA/CFM Program

The CMA/CFM programs certify professional competence in the broad fields of management accounting and financial management.  These certification programs are administered by the Institute of Management Accountants  (PO Box 405, Montvale, NJ,07645-0405,  1-800-638-4427). The Certified Management Accountant designation was developed by the ICMA in1972 to provide an objective measure of the individual's knowledge and competence in the field of management accounting.  Only the CMA program recognizes the unique proficiencies required for success in this challenging profession.  The CMA program has received the endorsement of approximately 200 corporate and academic organizations.

The Certified in Financial Management designation provides an objective measure of an individual's knowledge and competence in the field of financial management.  The ICMA created the CFM because the unique skills, experience, and knowledge of the financial management profession have long required a dedicated certification of excellence.  We think you will agree that the CFM Program recognizes the proficiency required by the financial management profession.  The CFM Program is co-sponsored by the Financial Management Association International which is the premier academic association for financial management.  Additional information can be found at http://www.imanet.org.

The CMA and CFM have 3 parts in common,   and the parts are taken in order designated by the candidate.

    Part             Subject

1                        Economics, Finance, and Management

2 CMA    Financial Accounting and Reporting

    2 CFM    Corporate Financial Management

3            Management Reporting, Analysis and  Behavioral Issues

4            Decision Analysis, Information Systems and Management Control

     Certification Requirements

·          Member of the IMA and ICMA

·          Pass all four parts of the CMA or CFM

·          Satisfy the experience requirement

·          Comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct

For detail information & registration, click here for the brochure on Part 2 held on Septembert 6 and 13.
