Fellow IMA members,
July is a time for fireworks and celebration and for
the Institute of Management Accountants
(IMA), it is no different. I was inspired the other day when I attended an
IMA Volunteer Workshop. The Institute of Management Accountants has really
done a great job promoting the brand. I have to say I’m proud to be an
Accountant. We have such a longstanding and highly professional industry
that continues to thrive and change as needed to adapt to the world at
large. I feel as though my accounting community understands me and offers
their support and encouragement to be all that I can be which leads me to
you!
The NC Triangle IMA Chapter’s role is to support our
members. Our goal is to make our activities fun and exciting for all
involved. We do this by offering programs that can truly help you perform
better on your job, further your career, and enhance your relationships
within our close community.
We encourage you to get involved in your local IMA
Chapter! You will earn valuable CPE credits by attending our dinner
meetings and Lunch & Learns (3 hours if you attend both events in 1 month
and 20+ hours in a year, all while you are building relationships within
your profession and industry) . Our Board is working very hard to develop
programs that will get your interest and excitement flowing. Learning all
you can about Accounting’s current events keep you informed and relevant in
your career. We will keep you posted as our calendar of events is confirmed.
There are several leadership opportunities available to
you in the local IMA Chapter as well as on the National level too. Our NC
Triangle IMA Board of Directors is made up of 22 professionals from a
variety of fields. If you want more leadership opportunities, the national
IMA also has many committee positions. To demonstrate what someone could do
by volunteering with your local IMA, we have 2 members who were recently
inducted to the Stuart Cameron McCleod Society (SCMS). SCMS is one of the
premier professional groups in the financial field. It is an organization
giving recognition to outstanding IMA Members and providing a community for
continued friendship and service. This group recognizes that our future
rests with our accounting and finance students. Accordingly, they fund
student scholarships and support the Annual IMA Student Conference. Isn’t
that cool?! To rise to a position in the accounting industry that helps
shape our future is something we can all be proud of. Congratulations to
Jamie Long and Kathy Santos-Rezendes – this honor is well deserved!
You too can be an Accounting Leader today! The 1st step
is to attend our meetings on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We start back in
September – See you there!
Best regards,
Kimberly Langley
